September in Newport was a really colourful time. This was thanks in no small way to the Full Colour Maindee festival.
All around Maindee, just a few minutes walk from the city centre, the walls, streets, floors, telecoms boxes and more came alive as local, national and international artists created masterpieces that will be seen by so many for so long.
In the bright blue skies of September, the pieces were vibrant, evocative and inspiring, but secretly, I'm hoping for some snow this winter because I think they will be an astounding contrast to the perfect whiteness of the magical Christmas precipitation (that we so rarely get at Christmas!).
I'm so, so pleased to have been asked by the fantastic Art On The Hill organisation to create and deliver a walking tour of these wonderful works as part of the AOTH weekend at the end of November this year.
The tour is completely free and will be taking in not JUST the new artworks but some of Newport's street art we might all be a bit more familiar with and a different kind of installation too. I'm really looking forward to the tour!
Would you like to come? I'd LOVE to have you along! It is free but you do need to book a space as numbers are limited.
Here's the link.
Hopefully I'll see you outside the Murenger at 11am on Saturday 23rd, the tour ends around 2 hours later at The Riverfront where the Art On The Hill Makers Market will be in full swing so you'll have chance to pick up your own piece of local art to take home. Why not pop into town early and have a lovely breakfast - I certainly will be!
