Marathon Weekend is Nearly Here!

Marathon weekend is such a terrific event for Newport! Whether you're a runner or a spectator, you can't help but get infected by the buzz!

Known for its flat and fast course, it's a favourite for runners aiming to achieve personal bests. It's one of the flattest in Europe with 70% of runners achieving PBs!

Part of the ABP Newport Marathon Festival, it also includes a half marathon, 10K, and family-friendly races. This year, the event takes place on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

The route has been designed by double Olympic marathon runner Steve Brace and showcases Newport's iconic landmarks, such as the Transporter Bridge, Newport Castle, and the Gwent Levels. Runners of the course can expect to see scenic beauty, including coastal wildlife and picturesque medieval villages.

Newport has celebrated Natasha Cockram, from neighbouring Cwmbran, who won the first ever Newport Marathon ladies section medal in 2018. Natasha went on to create a remarkable record of achievement in marathons in Dublin, London and many more. Natasha and female athleticism is celebrated with this piece of art in St Paul's walk in the city, a beautiful piece by local ceramic artist Stephanie Roberts

If you are in town to support someone, making a weekend of it and you'd like to have a good look around, I have a few tours available. We will see this artwork and the others that accompany it that celebrate the achievements of women of Newport.

Friday 11th at 10:00

Saturday 12th at 10:00

If you are running any of the events, good luck, and I will see you on the finish line as I am volunteering on the day!

All the best!
