Well I think Swansea is a lovely city...

It would be even better, however if the collection in The Waterfront Museum mentioned Newport and its significance more than just on the W.H. Davies display. Sad crying face.

What a terrific museum with wonderful guides/curators. I was there last week for the Wales Official Tourist Guides AGM and we had a special tour. The collections are really diverse and really cool. We were only there for an hour or so, time was quite limited for me to find more Newport (ish) references. Here's what I DID find:

They have a fantastic collection of images, film and objects relating to the South Wales coalfields. Plenty to explore! The local guide gave us a great anecdote too. The old Swansea Museum is known as "a museum so beautiful it should be in a museum"!

It is pretty impressive!

After that we headed to the Dylan Thomas Museum which was beautiful, a really modern and contemporary looking collection. A real joy.

The AGM was held after the tours and we made some really exciting plans for the future.

Newport has SO much to offer, it is a really good location for a new tourism "product" and I am really looking forward to being part of it's creation. We might not have "a museum so beautiful it should be in a museum" but Newport Museum and Art Gallery is an absolutely wonderful space with incredible, knowledgeable guys and the most fabulous collection. One word: Roman. :)

Charles and I had a great time and we met lots and lots of our other Wales Best Guides.
